The Grow a Garden Fairy Update adds three new pets: Wolpertinger, Red Cap, and Manticore. They drop from the Fairy Chest, which holds three possible pets and three possible seeds. I’d test Red Cap first, since it reportedly pairs with Mimic to age pets faster. Here’s every ability at a glance, based on Roonby’s ability testing and Sportskeeda’s patch notes.

PetAbilityCooldownBest For
WolpertingerAdvances a random plant’s growth~9.5 minGardens full of magical plants
Red CapChanges a pet’s level to shorten egg hatching~19 minPet progression with Mimic
ManticoreToxic mutation chain plus big XP~29 minMutation farming, collectors

What’s New in the Fairy Update?

The Fairy Event premiered on October 10, 2026, according to the Grow a Garden wiki. Sportskeeda’s patch notes list a Fairy Chest, a Fairy Crate with five possible cosmetics, and more than four new fairy cosmetics. There’s also Flower Frenzy, a limited-time Bee Garden activity where you pollinate flowers with your bee, or by pressing E, for rewards.

Five new plants arrived too: Prism Plume, Flutter Freesia, Royal Jelly Cup, Glimmervine, and Jellycap. Earlier leaks claimed the event would last about a week before Halloween, but that’s unconfirmed. I covered the pre-release rumors in my Fairy Event leaks breakdown.

All New Fairy Update Pets and Abilities

One caution before the details. Pet stats scale with weight, so every number below is approximate and your results will vary.

Wolpertinger: The Plant Growth Pet

Wolpertinger activates roughly every 9.53 minutes and advances a random plant’s growth by about 20.22 seconds for each magical plant in your garden.

That makes it a support pet. If your plot is packed with magical-type crops, it speeds up harvests without extra effort. With only a few magical plants, the boost is tiny. I’d skip it unless that describes your garden.

Red Cap: The Mimic Combo Pet

Red Cap triggers about every 19 minutes. Its ability either lowers a pet’s level by one to cut a random egg’s hatch time by roughly 21 minutes, or does the reverse. It also gains 12% of its current level’s XP each time it fires.

On paper, losing a level sounds bad. The interesting part is Mimic: testing showed that when Mimic copies Red Cap’s ability, the combo helps age pets. That makes Red Cap the most promising pet in the update for anyone who already owns Mimic.

Heads up: this interaction may be unintended. Test it with one Red Cap before you spend big, because a patch could change it.

Manticore: The Mutation and XP Pet

Every 29 minutes or so, Manticore consumes a fruit with at least eight mutations. After that, it has a 20% chance to apply the Toxic mutation to a random fruit, and each success can trigger another 20% roll in its sequence.

It also grants a large XP boost. Testing recorded 12,000 XP, with a ceiling of about 15,000 under the tested conditions. The effects fire in sequence, so don’t expect the XP and mutation to land at the same moment.

The catch is the requirement. Without heavily mutated fruit, Manticore does nothing, and its long cooldown makes it slow.

Which Fairy Pet Should You Get?

RankPetWhy
1Red CapStrongest upside, but only with Mimic
2WolpertingerReliable, but depends on magical plant count
3ManticoreSlow and picky, though fun for mutation fans

These rankings come from described ability tests, not a full comparison across garden setups. Balance changes could reshuffle them quickly.

How to Get the New Fairy Update Pets?

You can’t buy these pets directly at launch. They come from the Fairy Chest, and which pet you get is random.

  1. Head to the Fairy Event area.
  2. Submit eligible fruits for event rewards. Glimmering-mutated fruit works best.
  3. Claim your Fairy Chests and open them from your inventory.
  4. Repeat until you land the pet you want.
  5. Check Trade World if you want one immediately.

Pro tip: Roonby’s chest-farming loop is worth copying. Plant Sugar Apple, a Prismatic crop, and use three T-Rex pets to spread Glimmering. Then swap them for two Peacocks and one Harvest Golem so fruit gets harvested faster. Submit the haul and repeat.

Trade World prices spike in the first days of an update. Compare several listings before you pay, because values drop as more players hatch the pets.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Mixing up the 2025 pets. Ladybug, Pixie, Imp, Glimmering Sprite, and Cockatrice came from last year’s Fairy Event. Most search results still show those, not the new three.
  • Buying Red Cap without Mimic. Its best use needs the combo.
  • Feeding Manticore weak fruit. It needs eight or more mutations to work.
  • Overpaying on day one. Trade World hype fades fast.

FAQs

What are the new pets in the Grow a Garden Fairy Update?

Wolpertinger, Red Cap, and Manticore. All three come from the Fairy Chest, which holds three possible pets and three possible seeds.

Which Fairy Update pet is best?

Red Cap, if you own Mimic. The two together reportedly speed up pet aging. Without Mimic, Wolpertinger is the safer pick for magical-plant gardens.

When did the Fairy Update release?

The wiki lists the Fairy Event as premiering on October 10, 2026. Sportskeeda’s patch notes went up on October 11.

Is the Red Cap and Mimic combo an exploit?

It may be unintended, so a patch could change it. Test with one pet first.
