To unlock the Abandoned Manor in Steal an Egg, you must fish the Manor Key out of a secret underground pond. Board the Phantom Express to Forgotten Town, jump into the glowing green whirlpool, and cast your Haunted Rod from the wooden dock until the key surfaces — then press E on the chained door back in the Corrupted Realm.

The manor opened with Halloween Part 2 (Update 10) on November 24, 2026, and it guards the co-op Divine Cursed Monarch fusion. Here’s the exact route I followed, plus the fixes for when the key refuses to drop.

What You Need Before the Manor Door Opens?

The door is the last link in a four-part chain, and skipping any link leaves you standing at a chained gate with nothing to open it. Everything builds on Part 1’s questline, so work through it in order — the full schedule is in our Halloween Dimension update guide.

  1. Finish Echo’s Memories. Find Echo, the ghost pup in the Graveyard, and return his four keepsakes: Mr. Squeaky (by the pumpkin-shaped house), the Chewed Bone (low in the grass near the train station), the Old Collar (across the tracks beside the big tree), and the Old Photograph (behind the pumpkins at the manor gate itself — everyone runs straight past it).
  2. Claim the Haunted Rod. Hand the items over, follow Echo to the Ghost Fisherman at Gilbert’s Hut, and the rod is yours — free and permanent. My Haunted Rod walkthrough maps every pickup in one loop.
  3. Earn the Phantom Express Ticket. Cast from the glowing dock pad, and your first catch drags you underwater into a sea-mine run. Steer with A and D, survive with three lives, and the chest at the end holds the ticket. Keep it — one ticket covers every future boarding.

How to Get the Manor Key (Step-by-Step)

  1. Board the Phantom Express. Equip the ticket at the Haunted Swamp station. The train arrives every 30 minutes, on the hour and half-hour — if you just miss one, farm nearby NPCs instead of waiting idle. The route also passes the Ghouler boss arena, so squeeze in the event’s biggest 225-Soul payout with my Ghouler guide.
  2. Find the green whirlpool. From the Forgotten Town drop-off, head left past the large central tree until the path dead-ends at a lake. A sign beside it hints that you should fish inside the event dimension. Run to the edge and jump straight into the swirling vortex.
  3. Talk to Gus. You land in a cavern with a wooden dock and a fisherman named Gus, who admits he dropped the manor’s key into the water.
  4. Cast until the Manor Key drops. Equip the Haunted Rod and fish around the dock, winning each Click Fast! prompt. No confirmed drop rate exists, so treat it as patience work — junk catches still pay 20–40 Candy Corn, event eggs, and occasionally the Spectral mutation, so no cast is wasted. (Want the clicking automated? My AFK fishing setup covers the loop and its hotbar bug.)
  5. Take the green sewer pipe at the edge of the cavern — it drops you right beside the Abandoned Manor’s entrance.

How to Open the Abandoned Manor Door?

Approach the chained gate in the Corrupted Realm with the Manor Key in your hotbar and press E. The door shows “Locked” until you’re holding the key, and you only ever unlock it once — it stays open for the rest of the event, so you can leave, hatch eggs, and return without refishing. One detail most guides miss: the manor grounds were open all through Part 1 (that’s where Blood Moon spawns and the Secret Werewolf Egg appear). The key opens the house, not the biome.

What’s Inside the Abandoned Manor?

Head upstairs to the first floor and you’ll find a round library with four glowing pedestals — the Fuse Machine, this update’s secret co-op fusion. It needs two players, each placing one Ghost Fish (Eternal) and one Voidseer Pumpkin (Divine) on the pads. When all four pads fill, both players receive a Divine Cursed Monarch Egg to hatch at their base.

  • Ghost Fish is the easy half — it’s caught while fishing anywhere in the event dimension.
  • Voidseer Pumpkin is the bottleneck: it spawns in the manor’s egg pool at a 0.056 weight (roughly 1 in 1,800 spawns), so camp the biome during Blood Moon windows.
  • Trust check: don’t place your pets until your partner stands at the altar with theirs — ask to see the Voidseer in their Index first.

The Cursed Monarch is a secret Divine you can’t get anywhere else, which is exactly why it should hold value — track where it lands in my Steal An Egg tier list.

Manor Key Not Dropping? Quick Fixes

Most “the key won’t drop” complaints are setup mistakes, not bad luck:

  • Full hotbar: caught eggs push the rod out of your hotbar until casts silently do nothing. Keep slot 1 reserved and clear eggs as they land.
  • Wrong pond: the swamp pier water gives Candy Corn only — the key comes exclusively from the pond below the whirlpool.
  • Missed train: the cavern is only reachable from Forgotten Town, so wait for the next :00 or :30 departure.
  • Bugged instance: if prompts won’t fire at all, rejoin the server and ride the train again — the secret area reloads fresh.

FAQs

Where do you get the Manor Key in Steal an Egg?

It’s a rare fishing drop in the secret cavern under Forgotten Town. Ride the Phantom Express, jump into the green whirlpool, and cast from the dock near Gus until it bites.

How often does the Phantom Express arrive?

Every 30 minutes, on the hour and half-hour. You need the Phantom Express Ticket from Echo’s questline to board.

Do you have to unlock the Abandoned Manor every time?

No. The door unlocks once and stays open for the entire Halloween event — the Fusion Machine and boss portal are repeat visits.

How do you get the Divine Cursed Monarch pet?

Unlock the manor, go upstairs to the four-pedestal Fuse Machine, and fuse with a partner: one Ghost Fish and one Voidseer Pumpkin each. You both get a Divine Cursed Monarch Egg.

Are there Abandoned Manor codes or free keys?

No. Steal an Egg has no code system, and nobody can hand you a Manor Key — any site claiming otherwise is scamming you.
