Nen is the make-or-break power system in Beyond Nen — without it you can’t use aura techniques, roll a Nen ability, or touch the Nen skill tree, and you’re capped at Level 50. The fastest way to get Nen is to pass the four-stage Hunter Exam, earn your Hunter License, then finish Rohan’s meditation quest in the Nen Cave. To do it fast: hit Level 20 (Level 10 minimum), queue the exam from the main-menu lobby when it opens each hour, survive the Stamina Race, bait the traps in Trick Tower, hold two badges on Zevil Island, win the final 1v1, and meditate at the Nen Cave. Below: every stage strategy, the fastest prep route, and the free Spins codes I used.

How to Get Nen Fast in Beyond Nen?

There are only three ways to awaken Nen, and one is a trap:

MethodHow It WorksMy Verdict
Pass the Hunter ExamClear all four stages, get your Hunter License, complete the Activate Nen questGuaranteed and fast — do this
Receive Nen from another playerA Nen user attempts an aura transfer on youOnly ~3% success; failure can corrupt your aura
Unlock all seven Nen nodesRaw progression grind without a licenseSlowest route; late-game territory

The Hunter Exam is the only method I recommend. It’s repeatable, reliable once you win the final duel, and takes 30–60 minutes when you know the stage tricks below.

Hunter Exam Requirements

  • Level 10 is the minimum, but don’t enter at 10. Level 10 characters get deleted by Trick Tower’s boss and rolled in the final 1v1. I queued at 20+ instead.
  • You’re capped at Level 50 until you’re licensed, so don’t over-grind.
  • The exam opens at the start of every hour through the main-menu lobby, and my session needed at least six players queued to start — watch the in-game timer.
  • Gear up first: a crafted weapon (the Archive Sword is the easiest Level 10 craft), a few unlocked combat skills, and stable ping, because Stages 3 and 4 are pure PvP.

Invite a friend into your lobby before queuing. Coordinating on voice makes Zevil Island dramatically easier.

Hunter Exam Stage 1: Stamina Race

Stage 1 is an obstacle course — you don’t need to win it, just reach the finish line in time.

  • Falling boulders are the only hazard. They telegraph with a red marker and have a hit delay, so sidestep and keep moving.
  • A shop-bought skateboard trivializes this stage, but it isn’t pay-to-win: practiced slide-jumping (slide, jump, repeat) outpaces most board users.
  • Turn on auto-run in Settings. Sprinting that way currently burns no stamina, while holding Shift does — exploit it before the devs patch it.

Hunter Exam Stage 2: Trick Tower

Trick Tower is a fixed maze (the exit route never changes) ending in an NPC boss fight.

  • Side-wall crushers have highlighted pressure plates. Step on one, back off instantly to bait the trap, then walk through once it resets.
  • Wall-jump sideways past whole trap lines, and jump over the floor triggers that drop ceiling traps.
  • Hunt for the purple box; that’s the exit marker.
  • The humanoid boss is simple if you block, parry, and dodge, then punish with M1 + uppercut combos and skills. Use air attacks to close distance, dodge backwards when he winds up his fire tornado, and zone him with M1s. Don’t fight near the edges — falling off is how Level 10s die here.

Hunter Exam Stage 3: Zevil Island (PvP)

The real skill check: an open-zone PvP match where you must survive until the timer ends holding two badges — your own plus one gripped from another player.

  • Never grip badge-less players. You gain nothing, they instantly recover, and they’ll hunt you. If someone attacks to reclaim their badge, down them and run.
  • Getting gripped costs you a badge, but you instantly recover with 50% HP.
  • For a clean 1v1, isolate lone players: M1 uppercut combos, play for cooldowns, jump attacks to close distance, and save evasives for combos you can’t escape.
  • Holding two badges? Play defense — skateboard or slide-jump to stall the clock and watch for ganks.
  • Friends make this a breeze: group up, down one player together, grip badges as a pack, then defend as one.

Hunter Exam Stage 4: Final 1v1 Tournament

Win one last 1v1 against a random player and the Hunter License is yours. Same combat rules as Zevil Island: land the first hit, respect their combos, don’t waste evasives. One quirk — if you brought a friend, the bracket can match you against each other, so agree beforehand whether you fight for real or trade the win.

How to Unlock Nen After the Hunter Exam

The license alone isn’t Nen — there’s one short quest left:

  1. Press P, hide every tracker, then enable only Active Quest so the “Activate Nen” marker stays clean.
  2. Buy a Meditation Mat from a town merchant (I grabbed mine in the starter village; some players find it in Port Town).
  3. Follow the marker to the Nen Cave on Wayfarer Island and talk to Rohan.
  4. Watch the cutscene, speak to him again, and place the Meditation Mat where the quest points.
  5. Approach the mat and press T to meditate. A quick-time event appears — hammer the displayed keys as fast as you can.
  6. Return to Rohan. He awakens your Nen, teaches Ten and Ren, rolls your Nen ability, and unlocks your Nen wheel (E) and Nen charge (G).

Then press M for the Nen skill tree and buy the masteries your ability demands — mine wanted 15 Nen points plus Mastery Level 1 in several categories. Keep meditating: technique upgrades ask for 75, then 250 meditation progress.

Fastest Way to Level Up Before the Exam

Quest boards beat everything for XP. Stack multiple quests per trip, grab the purple-! side quests, and set your spawn at campfires (press T at one with Campfires enabled in the P menu) before any boss fight. This is the route I ran:

Level RangeLocationWhat to Do
1–10Starter VillageTutorial, quest board missions, side quests
10Starter VillageWeapon quest → craft the Archive Sword (20 Iron + 20 Limestone + Schematic)
10–20Early quest areas + FarmBoard missions and the bear boss (break its purple guard bar)
20+Exam lobbyEnter the next hourly Hunter Exam

Equip accessories from quest chests, and put stat points into your weapon’s damage stat and durability instead of dumping everything into Strength.

Pro Tips Most Players Miss

  • Roll your Affinity before committing. Enhancement pulls Jajanken, Transmutation pulls Godspeed, Specialist rolls Aura Corruption — Enhancement is the community favorite for new players.
  • Don’t farm past Level 50 — you’re capped until licensed, so push straight at the exam instead.
  • Never sell your Meditation Mat. Later Nen techniques need repeated meditation sessions, and rebuying is pure waste.

FAQs

Can you get Nen without the Hunter Exam?

Yes, but neither alternative is worth it: receiving Nen from another player succeeds only ~3% of the time and can corrupt your aura on failure, while unlocking all seven Nen nodes through raw progression takes far longer than one exam run.

What level should I be for the Beyond Nen Hunter Exam?

Level 10 is the minimum, but I recommend 20+ with a crafted weapon and a few combat skills unlocked. Trick Tower’s boss and the final 1v1 punish under-leveled players.

Where is the Nen Cave in Beyond Nen?

It’s on Wayfarer Island. After earning your license, press P, enable only the Active Quest tracker, and follow the “Activate Nen” marker straight to Rohan.

Can you choose your Nen ability?

No — Rohan rolls it randomly based on your Affinity. Open the M skill tree to see which masteries your ability needs, and use the free Spin codes above to reroll your Lineage into a stronger setup.
