I’ve played every Cat Battles update since launch and re-ranked all 11 abilities for October 2026. The Alien Invasion update changed everything: Shark Attack, Wind Shurikens and Hairball joined the roster, so tier lists from early October are already outdated. You can only equip one ability per match, and you activate it with Q on PC, so this choice matters more than any fur or emote. My quick verdict: Shark Attack and Wind Shurikens are the strongest picks, while Nine Lives is the best ability you can buy with Coins. Here’s the full ranking, with costs, cooldowns and a smart buying order for free-to-play players.

How I Ranked Every Ability?

My tiers weigh four things: how often an ability creates eliminations, how well it keeps you alive, how forgiving the cooldown is, and what the unlock costs. Mythic bundle-only abilities are judged on power; Coin abilities on value. Positions reflect the post-Alien Invasion meta across Classic, 2 Teams and 4 Teams modes.

S-Tier Abilities

Shark Attack summons a shark that plows through every cat in its path with heavy knockback. You don’t need precise aim in a crowded pit, which makes it the most consistent elimination tool in the game.

Wind Shurikens fires two fans of shurikens that ragdoll victims and send them flying — usually landing outside the ring. Nothing else turns one hit into a ring-out this reliably.

Hairball is the best Coin purchase. Drop the slick patch where opponents walk and they slip, leaving them wide open for a grab. Mind that you can slip on it too.

Nine Lives revives you once per match after a knockout. It wins no fights by itself, but surviving an extra elimination decides most endgames — and at 2,000 Coins it’s the cheapest S-tier pick.

A-Tier Abilities

Fluff Up puffs your cat up so every hit launches opponents farther. Its 4-second window is the longest of any ability, so pop it mid-ring while rivals are bunched together, not at the edge.

Anchor digs your claws in and makes you nearly impossible to push or toss. It’s pure defense — perfect for holding position when someone lines up a shove, but it eliminates nobody.

Hiss breaks any grab the moment a cat lifts you. Trigger it too early and it does nothing, so wait for the commitment. At 750 Coins it’s the best budget buy in the game.

B-Tier Abilities

Everything here works, but none of it reliably finishes opponents. Catnip refreshes stamina for three seconds of speed, yet costs the same 5,000 Coins as Fluff Up — the hardest ability to justify. Stomp shakes the floor to disrupt brawls for just 0.6 seconds. Pounce leaps you at the nearest cat; it closes distance but can grab the wrong target. Dash is the free starter every player equips first. Its 6-second cooldown is the shortest in the game, and hits miss you mid-dash, so it stays a decent fallback until you can afford Nine Lives.

Why Older Tier Lists Disagree?

Early October guides ranked Dash, Stomp and Anchor in S-tier — fairly, because the game launched with only eight abilities on October 5. The Alien Invasion update then added Shark Attack, Wind Shurikens and Hairball, expanding the roster to 11 and resetting the meta. If a tier list still puts Dash first, it predates the update.

How to Get and Equip Abilities?

Open the Inventory (bag icon) in the lobby, select the Abilities tab, and buy with Coins. Equipped abilities show an Equipped label, and only one works per match — press Q on PC to activate it. Shark Attack and Wind Shurikens are bundle-only and cost Robux.

Free Coins come from codes: try RELEASE, NEWGAME, CATS, 5kWHISKUR, 10MLOAFF, YARNZ2K and 1KCHONKY. Redeem them through the gear icon, then the code box at the bottom of Settings. Eliminations, the prize wheel and quests pay too.

My buying order for free-to-play players: Nine Lives first, save for Hairball, then grab Hiss or Anchor if grabs and shoves keep ending your runs. Free Coin codes from other Roblox games like Rocket Rush won’t work here, so redeem these in-game.

Equip one in the Abilities tab of your Inventory, then press Q on PC during a match. You can reuse it whenever the cooldown ends.
