Her Early Life And Education

Rachel Griffin was born in Biddeford, Maine, and grew up in the nearby town of Sanford. She went to Sanford High School and the University of Southern Maine, where she did theater, and later, she went to New York University to complete her master’s degree in music education.

Moreover, before she started her YouTube program, she worked as a music teacher at a public preschool in New York City, and recently, she is working on her second master’s degree in early childhood education.

She started her Miss. Rachel’s YouTube page in 2019 with her husband, the Broadway music director and composer Aron Accurso. They did this as they could not find enough media for their son, who had a speech delay and did not say his first word until he was two.

She made a YouTube series for babies and toddlers called Songs for Littles, which is a mix of classic children’s songs like nursery rhymes.

Her music for babies and toddlers was started as a class that Griffin-Accurso taught in person and was based on the techniques that her son’s early childhood action speech therapist used, with a focus on language development goals and topics that were open to everyone.

How She Got Popularity?

The channel became very famous during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. As of 2023, it has more than five million subscribers.

Furthermore, Accurso also became famous on TikTok by the name Ms. Rachel gained more than 2.5 million followers there by March 2023.

Rachel’s Controversy

In February 2023, Accurso took a break from TikTok due to her emotional health, but her followers thought that the break was because some parents on the platform did not like how Accurso’s co-star Jules Hoffman used “they” and “them” names.

However, Accurso went back to TikTok the same month and signed for Songs for Littles to the Creative Artists Agency.

Her Way Of Success

Ms. Griffin Accurso never knew what she wanted to do for a living when she was growing up in the small Maine town of Springvale. But she knew she loved kids and helping other people. Working with kids at a Boys & Girls Club gave him the idea to combine those interests with music. It took a few years for those two loves to come together, though.

In 2009, she moved to New York City on a whim after reading a Mark Twain quote about how people come to regret not following their dreams.

She worked as a babysitter and did other odd jobs. She then met Mr. Accurso at a Unitarian church.

On their second date, she asked him, “Don’t you just love Mister Rogers?” Mr. Accurso can still remember that question. She was talking about how much she liked Fred Rogers, the friendly TV show who taught kids about being kind for many years.

She worked with Mr. Accurso on a project where they wrote songs and made a show about mental health. Ms. Griffin Accurso went to New York University and got a master’s degree in music education. She then started working as a music teacher at Bedford Park Elementary School in the Bronx.

Rachel and Accurso got married in 2016, and in 2018, their son Thomas was born. After that, Ms. Griffin Accurso quit her full-time job as a teacher so she could be with her son. When her son was growing up, and he turned one, she saw that Thomas was not meeting important goals, especially when it came to talking. She said, “His mouth did not talk to his brain.”

The couple went to a speech therapist, but Ms. Griffin Accurso also wanted to help him learn more. She did not find what she was looking for, so she started making movies.

She filmed close-ups of her mouth to show how to say words, and she made sure to use her voice, sign language, and images in her versions of children’s songs. Moreover, she recorded the music lessons and gave them in person, and besides this, the couple put the movies on YouTube. They thought that it would not hurt if other people found them useful.
