Fortnite Update 42.40 Patch Notes (October 2026) Honey Sprite & Obsession Collab

Fortnite update 42.40 goes live on October 15, 2026, with servers going offline at 4 AM ET. It’s the final major update of Chapter 7 Season 4 and adds the Honey and Obsession Sprites, the Obsession collab, new Loot Hacks, Match Overrides, and four bug fixes. I’ve gone through the early notes so you know exactly what’s coming.

Fortnite 42.40 Downtime

Downtime starts at 4 AM ET on October 15. Maintenance should take roughly two hours, so I’d expect servers back around 6 AM ET. The patch covers Battle Royale, Reload, and the Horde Rush LTM.

New Sprites in Update 42.40

Two Sprites arrive, and these are the last ones this season. Each should come with its own variants like the earlier Sprites.

The Honey Sprite is reportedly a winner of the Chapter 7 Season 3 community design-a-Sprite contest. One outlet expects up to 12 new Sprites including variants, but Epic hasn’t confirmed the Obsession variants. My advice is to grab both before the season ends, since the Obsession Sprite makes finishing your collection much faster. Our Fortnite Sprites guide (internal link) covers all of them.

New Match Overrides

At least three new Match Overrides are coming. Based on earlier ones, I expect some to give squad-only boosts and others to affect the whole lobby. Epic hasn’t named them yet, so I’ll update this once they’re live.

New Loot Hacks and Weapons

Six new Loot Hacks are coming, and they’ll likely be Fortnitemares-themed like the ones in update 42.30. New weapons are possible, but with only two weeks left in the season, I wouldn’t count on them.

Map Changes

I don’t expect any big POI changes, since most Fortnitemares map changes landed in 42.30. The one thing to watch is the storm above Geno’s Machine. It keeps growing in size and intensity and seems to be opening a portal to another dimension, which could set up the next chapter.

Fortnitemares 2026 Collabs

The Obsession collab arrives on October 15, and that’s the only confirmed date. Other collabs listed in the early notes:

Epic should reveal their exact dates later this week. Hazbin Hotel skins weren’t in the first-week shop schedule, so 42.40 is the most likely launch window, though that isn’t official.

Quests and Free Skins

Fortnitemares Quests: Complete them to unlock the Jack-A-Nape skin. More quests are coming for XP and cosmetics.
Kado Thorne Quests: A new set arrives with this update.
Gold Punk skin: You can get it by redeeming a Fortnite Gift Card before Fortnitemares ends.

Bug Fixes in 42.40

Epic is fixing these known issues:

Weak Points may not appear when hitting destructible objects on Nintendo Switch 2
Some Cheat Codes in Wonkeeland overlap and can’t be interacted with
Custom keyboard bindings for Vehicles may revert to default
The Shield Potion slurp glow may persist for an entire match
